Amcom Software Keeps Patient Data Fully Secured With Encrypted Smartphone Messaging
- BlackBerry, iPhone, and Android smartphones each feature privacy and encryption options that Amcom Mobile Connect leverages to protect patient and staff information
- Message encryption complies with government initiatives designed to guard the exchange of electronic protected health information such as HIPAA and the HITECH Act
MINNEAPOLIS, MN July 21, 2010 Amcom Software, Inc. today announced that Amcom Mobile Connect encrypts messages sent to staff members' smartphones to ensure security for electronic protected health information (ePHI). This smartphone messaging system allows hospitals to incorporate BlackBerry, iPhone, and Android smartphones for use in code calls, consult requests, and other two-way messaging situations during which sensitive patient details may be exchanged.
These hospital communications are encrypted during transmission from the system sending the message, which could be a standalone Web portal or an integrated application such as an operator console, Web directory, or other solution. Mobile Connect then decrypts the message once it reaches the targeted smartphone to enable compliance with initiatives set forth by HIPAA and the HITECH Act. Smartphone platforms such as BlackBerry offer an added measure of security though enterprise server options that process Mobile Connect messages.
"Ensuring the security of messages is a requirement for our customers and something we take very seriously given the highly sensitive information involved," said Chris Heim, CEO, Amcom Software. "This is an especially important consideration as we look ahead to the future of our mobile applications and help healthcare organizations uncover new ways to change their clinical workflows through improved communications that remain secure at every step."
