Integrate. Automate. Communicate.

Lynden Aged Care Improves Staff and Resident Communications with Amcom Software's Enterprise Middleware Solution

  • Amcom Software's Commtech Messenger integrates with two nurse call systems to send notifications directly to staff using Vocera communication badges and Cisco phones
  • Streamlined communication leads to safer environment and better care for residents
  • Tracking and reporting of all communications improves staff accountability and efficiency

PERTH, Western Australia – August 2, 2011 – Amcom Software, Inc. today announced that Lynden Aged Care, a not-for-profit aged care provider in Camberwell, Victoria, has improved the way their staff communicate with one another as well as with residents using Amcom Software's Commtech Messenger middleware. The solution from Commtech Wireless, a division of Amcom Software, sends alerts from Lynden's nurse call systems directly to the correct staff member. Rather than caregivers spending time locating staff around the facility, Commtech Messenger allows Lynden to specify which staff members should receive each notification and the type of communication device the caregiver is using. This enhanced communication process improves resident care and provides a safer environment.

Caregivers can communicate with residents via the connection between the caregiver's Vocera communication badges and the nurse call system's in-room speakers, allowing residents to be in touch with caregivers faster and reducing the need for nurses to make extra trips. In addition, the facility began using AeroScout Wi-Fi RFID solutions, which enable the tracking and monitoring of the location of residents wearing AeroScout tags.

Managers use Commtech Messenger's reporting functionality to monitor details about all notifications sent, including which staff member responded to an alert and when. This is beneficial for monitoring staff efficiency and ensures accountability.

"Not only does our staff love the Commtech Messenger solution, but so do the residents because they get to spend more time with the nurses," said Ann Turnbull, CEO of Lynden Aged Care. "When a resident pushes the nurse call button, the staff are able to respond quicker, which provides a safer environment for residents."

"In an aged care setting, it is imperative for caregivers to react quickly and effectively to residents' needs," said John Jordan, General Manager — Asia Pacific, Amcom Software. "Lynden Aged Care is committed to providing its residents the best possible care, and Commtech Messenger is an important part of this mission."
