Mississippi College Increases Campus Safety With Enhanced 911 from Amcom Software
- The Amcom system provides the 911 call center with detailed 911 caller location information—including the building, floor, and room number
- Onsite public safety department receives alerts when a 911 call is in progress, allowing them to provide assistance to emergency responders
MINNEAPOLIS, MN November 9, 2011 Amcom Software, Inc. today announced that Mississippi College is significantly improving the level of safety for its students and faculty with the help of Amcom's enhanced 911 (E911) solution. The Amcom solution enables the college to comply with Mississippi's E911 legislation by providing the local 911 call center with a 911 caller's exact location on campus, including the building, floor, and room number. The public safety department at Mississippi College is also notified when a 911 call is made, allowing them to provide valuable first responder assistance.
The Amcom solution spans Mississippi College's phone system, covering nearly 2,000 phones throughout the 36-building campus. This includes a health, medical, and fitness complex run jointly with a nearby hospital. As 911 calls are occurring, the public safety department uses the recording feature of the system to monitor call quality and ensure the call is not a prank.
"Mississippi College was the first college in the state to have enhanced 911, and we're proud of our legacy of focusing on campus safety," said Mac Culpepper, Director of Telecommunications, Mississippi College. "We've been very happy with the Amcom E911 solution and have made it a part of our daily process. It gives us peace of mind in knowing that our students and faculty are taken care of if an emergency situation occurs."
"Over the years we've been honored to work with Mississippi College and support its proactive approach to providing a safe and secure campus at all times," said Chris Heim, President, Amcom Software. "As we've seen E911 legislation requirements change and expand over the years, many higher education institutions such as Mississippi College have come to discover that knowing where a 911 call originates is crucial to effective emergency response."
