Amcom Software Helps Hospitals Consolidate Messaging on Smartphones
- Physicians, nurses, and administrators consolidate critical and non-critical messages with a single smartphone, eliminating the need for multiple devices and outdated paging technology
- Product was developed based on feedback from hospital IT teams looking for ways to empower mobile staff to communicate more efficiently and thus improve patient care
MINNEAPOLIS, MN December 15, 2009 Amcom Software, Inc., today announced that it is releasing Amcom Mobile Connect, a revolutionary solution that enables clinicians and administrators to use a BlackBerry device for all messages, including critical codes. This solution allows highly mobile staff to shed their tool belt of various phones and pagers with the certainty that messages will be received quickly and reliably on their smartphones. Amcom Mobile Connect also helps hospital IT teams reduce their reliance on expensive and outdated paging equipment.
Amcom offers the only solution on the market that allows messages to be generated by those using operator consoles, Web directories, emergency notification systems, and speech recognition applications. Amcom Mobile Connect enables critical messaging, including full two-way communication, between someone using one of these applications and a mobile physician, nurse, or other staff member carrying a BlackBerry smartphone. This process encompasses sending the communication to the appropriate person, tracking the device's receipt of it, and capturing the response or action taken by the recipient.
These capabilities represent a key element of unified communications within hospitals: system intelligence that ensures the right information is sent to the right person on the right device at the right time. Essential to this is incorporating each hospital's unique rules about how messages should be routed and escalated at different times of day. The automating of these often-complex rules reduces errors, speeds response, and ultimately improves patient care.
"The prevalence of smartphones in hospitals is bringing about fundamental changes—and new possibilities—in the ways we communicate. We developed Amcom Mobile Connect based on direct feedback from our customers. They wanted to simplify the day-to-day interactions among staff members in a way that improved patient care as well as the bottom line," said Chris Heim, CEO, Amcom Software. "This solution has already generated an overwhelming response from our customers."
A BlackBerry smartphone running Amcom Mobile Connect very easily differentiates critical communications from non-urgent updates because they are automatically separated on the screen. The system logs all communications, including messages sent, received, and read, to ensure accountability. The aggressive product development plan for Amcom Mobile Connect includes adding support for several other popular smartphones used in hospitals today.
