MINNEAPOLIS - May 21, 2008 - Greenwich Hospital, a member of the Yale New Haven Health System and an academic affiliate of the Yale University School of Medicine, has selected Amcom Software's Site Alert E911 emergency call identification software to automatically provide information about 911 caller locations for their multi-facility, multi-community organization. The new addition to the hospital's suite of Amcom call center capabilities will enable responding agencies to quickly send emergency medical system (EMS) teams to the caller's exact location.
Greenwich Hospital serves Fairfield County, Connecticut and Westchester County, New York with six medical and administrative facilities, spread across three communities. For Greenwich, like any multi-location, multi-community based organization, quick, accurate identification of a 911 caller's location is imperative in managing emergency response efforts. "Our focus on service excellence extends beyond patient care. Service excellence equally applies to the safety of our employees and visitors. If someone in our facilities has a problem, we need to get them help as quickly as we can," explained Mirela Weeks, Telecommunications Manager for Greenwich Hospital. "Our phone system automatically transfers 911 calls to the Greenwich public safety answering point," she said. . "Since we have locations that come under the responsibility of three community's PSAPs, we need to provide accurate information to the correct one, to better protect our patients, employees and hospital visitors."
Greenwich Hospital CIO, Jim Weeks commented, "When people work in or use one of our facilities, they trust they'll be able to get emergency help when and where they need it. This is an important responsibility for any organization. Amcom has been a trusted part of our call center for more than 10 years and we're confident that the E911 capabilities we're adding will help us get the right response team to the right location if we have a problem in any of our buildings."
Since the hospital's PBX system, like all such systems, could only identify the call center as the source of a 911 call, the PBX reseller urged Greenwich to turn to Amcom Software for solutions. Amcom's recent addition of the industry-leading Telident E911 product portfolio to its emergency management suite seemed a perfect choice to provide a solution to the challenges faced by the Greenwich team.
The Amcom Site Alert E911 system will enable Greenwich to use their in-house direct inward dialing (DID) database to update the Connecticut public automatic location information (ALI) database. The system will also continuously update the information for each of the hospital's 2,900 phone sets and combined 3,800 phone numbers, connected through two Nortel CS1000 PBX systems. Now 911 calls, with accurate information about the caller's location, will quickly and automatically be routed to the correct public safety answering point for response. Greenwich Hospital's Safety and Security department will also receive real-time notifications, enabling them to respond to support the EMS squad, help with traffic or protect others in the area as needed.
"When we acquired Telident's E911 products, we knew it'd be a great addition to our call center and emergency management suites," said Chris Heim, Amcom CEO. "We view projects like the one at Greenwich as confirmation that we're providing solutions to our customer's pressing needs. The response from our hospital customers has been tremendous, indicating a strong demand in their environments in addition to the other industries using E911."
