Enhanced 911 Software by the Industry Leader

Safety is Your Responsibility. E911 is Our Business.

Knowing where a 911 call originates is essential to effective emergency response. Currently, the phone systems of many large facilities, such as office buildings, healthcare institutions, colleges and universities, transmit only the main billing phone number to the 911 answering point (for police, fire, and ambulance service)—not the 911 caller’s exact phone number. By providing only the main billing number, the 911 answering point can only derive the main billing address of where the 911 caller is located. In many cases the main billing phone number and address are not enough for emergency personnel to find the 911 caller. Learn about 911 calls gone wrong.

Amcom’s enhanced 911 (E911) software gives you the tools you need to protect your most valuable asset: your people. The solutions pinpoint a 911 caller’s exact location and pass it along to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). This kind of reliable, automatic transfer of information will help you provide vital, lifesaving information and notify the appropriate onsite personnel that an emergency call is in progress.

The Right Way to Handle 911 Calls and Provide Effective E911 Service

1.  Pinpoint the exact location of the caller

Knowing where the call originates is crucial. In many cases, when an individual dials 911 within a large facility, the information that is passed to a 911 answering point contains the billing address, NOT the exact location (e.g., building 222, room 416) of where the call originated. Additionally, the local emergency or security personnel may not even be notified that a 911 call has occurred until the first responders have arrived, losing valuable time where they could be of aid. The consequences may be life threatening.

2.  Notify onsite Staff in real time

Amcom’s software helps you provide effective E911 service with real-time, onsite notification every time 911 is dialed. With this feature, onsite personnel get a quick snapshot of what’s happening and provide valuable first responder assistance—instead of just waiting for the 911 team to arrive. Passive monitoring allows security officers to listen to a 911 call in progress, thereby enabling them to assess the situation and respond accordingly. This may mean the difference between life and death.

Amcom’s E911 solutions allow you to notify many different locations about the 911 call. Easily alert staff at a security desk, guard shack, PBX attendant location, or any other desired location in the enterprise. Amcom also provides flexibility in how you notify people because it support phones, pagers, wireless devices or screen pops to computers.

Screen pops not only alert onsite staff, but also provide specific information about a caller or location, such as a critical medical condition or the presence of hazardous materials. This extra information allows onsite personnel to better assist when emergency responders arrive.

I'm very satisfied with Amcom's E911 solution. Amcom is always improving their product—one that's been solving problems for over 30 years. The organization is sensitive to the customer's needs and has a great staff of employees. I would recommend Amcom to anyone who is looking to purchase an E911 system.

3. Update the ALI Database

Locating a 911 caller is based on having accurate information in the public location database, known as the automatic location identifier database (ALI). When you place a 911 call, your location is passed to the emergency call-takers. Many organizations don’t realize that maintaining accurate information in this ALI database is their responsibility. Amcom takes care of this by automatically tracking and maintaining your organization’s moves, adds, and changes and updating the ALI database accordingly.

4.  Track VOIP Call locations

As more organizations use voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) telephony, it has become imperative to track and manage 911 calls throughout the networks. Amcom solutions track dynamic IP end points, allowing individuals to change the location of their phone but still be identified. In addition, the systems notify local authorities of any changes and update the public ALI database, ensuring the PSAP is presented with the most current information.

Many states have legislation requiring Enhanced 911 systems for organizations. Amcom partners with you to help interpret current and pending regulations and make sure your organization is compliant.

5.  Meet and exceed e911 compliance legislation

It is important to understand how compliance legislation fits into the picture. There is a growing movement from many states within the United States that requires E911 for organizations. Amcom Software has extensive experience in helping customers comply with both state and federal regulations. Amcom solutions meet and exceed compliance legislation for TDM as well as VoIP static and dynamic end points, end point tracking and discovery, nomadic VoIP users, and ANI and ALI updates.
